Bless This Night Embroidery and Two Booklets

This past winter, members of the long-term Holden community collaborated to create a brand new evening prayer service: Bless this Night: Vespers '23.

The service seeks to honor night and darkness as times of God's blessing and renewal in our lives. It also has themes of creation, embodiment, and justice. Bless This Night was introduced this past summer as part of the weekly Sacred Space worship rhythms in the Village.

As a special keepsake, two original Bless This Night booklets used during summer 2023 worship can be yours. The booklets are signed by the Villagers who composed the music, translated Scripture, and wrote the poetic words for Bless This Night.

Cole Parke-West is a Holden Kitchen alum and was a member of the summer 2023 teaching faculty.

Hand Carved Wooden Eating Spoon

Villager Johannes Carlsen made this spoon from a downed branch of vine maple found in the Village.

It was made following the Slojd tradition of green woodworking, without the use of power tools. The tools used were a hand saw, froe, hatchet, straight knife and hook knife. The kolrosing on the handle is in a traditional woven basket pattern and is etched with the tip of a knife, filled with coffee grounds and burnished with a smooth stone.

The spoon is sealed with a food safe combination of walnut oil and carnuba wax and is ready to eat off of!

Hand Carved Serving Spoon

Villager Johannes Carlsen made this spoon from a downed branch of vine maple found in the Village.

It was made following the Slojd tradition of green woodworking, without the use of power tools. The tools used were a hand saw, froe, hatchet, straight knife and hook knife.

It is sealed with a food safe combination of walnut oil and carnuba wax and is ready to eat off of!

Pendleton Wool Weaving

This stunning loom weaving was made on the Gjesta floor loom at Holden Village by Andrea Mann using beautiful Pendleton wool blanket salvage.
